inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Sukamta, Vice Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), urged the government not to relax its efforts to eradicate online gambling, even though the turnover of funds for this activity is showing a downward trend.

Sukamta stated that the decline in online gambling funds is a positive development, but the problem is not yet resolved, requiring the government to continue strengthening its handling measures.

According to him, data from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) shows that the turnover of online gambling funds in 2025 decreased to IDR 286.84 trillion, or around 20 percent compared to the previous year. Deposits also fell from IDR 51.3 trillion to IDR 36.01 trillion.

Sukamta believes this decline is inseparable from the Ministry of Communication and Digital’s (Komdigi) efforts to shut down online gambling sites and implement various other preventative measures.

"We appreciate Komdigi for being at the forefront of reducing online gambling turnover," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday (7/29/2026).

However, he noted that PPATK analysis showed that online gambling activities would continue in 2026, with increasingly frequent, widespread transactions and smaller denominations.

Therefore, he argued, the government needs to improve cross-sector coordination and not relax its handling of online gambling practices.

Sukamta also proposed the development of a National Digital Space Security Policy that integrates digital communications policies, electronic system implementation, data protection, cybersecurity, digital platform governance, and law enforcement against online gambling practices.
