Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Female badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung made a dramatic advance to the quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a thrilling win over South Korea's Kim Ga Eun. 

The match, held at Porte De La Chapelle Arena on Friday, saw Gregoria come out on top with scores of 21-4, 8-21, 23-21, according to antaranews.com.

In the first game, Gregoria dominated, winning easily 21-4. However, Kim bounced back in the second game, taking it 21-8 and forcing a third game. The final game was a nail-biter, with Kim leading 11-8 at the midpoint. Gregoria made a strong comeback, eventually securing the match after several deuces.

Gregoria will next face Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon, a rematch of their Tokyo 2020 Olympics encounter where Intanon won. Gregoria had previously defeated Intanon in the 2024 Uber Cup quarterfinals. 

Her victory is significant as it marks the first time since Beijing 2008 that an Indonesian female shuttler has reached the Olympic quarterfinals.
