Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Indonesian National Police reiterated their neutrality during 2024 General Elections period, both in their security operations and general behavior.
“Police neutrality in 2023-2024 Elections have been authorized or included in Laws of the Republic of Indonesia and Regulations of the Chief of Police," says head department of police operations, Grand Commissioner Muhammad Firman on Wednesday (10/11/2023).
He then explains that police personnel is must act neutral and not get involved in practical political activities and cannot exercise the right to vote, as it was stated in Article 28 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the Police.
Then, in Regulations of the Chief of Police Number 14 of 2011 concerning the Police Professional Code of Ethics, it was stated that police are obligated to refrain from political activities.
Proofs of military neutrality from political activities was shown with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding by the Indonesian National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Indonesian Military Force Admiral Yudo Margono on October 5th, 2023.
