inp.polri.go.id - Yahukimo. A gunfight between the Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force and the armed criminal group (KKB) from the XVI Yahukimo Regional Military Command (KODAP) occurred in Samboga Village, Seredala District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, on Wednesday (4/15/2026).
The incident occurred during a routine patrol to anticipate security disturbances in the area.
The incident began at noon when a joint team consisting of Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force-2026 and the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police were passing along the Trans Papua Highway.
At that time, the joint team came under fire from the KKB group, which hit the personnel's tactical vehicle. The task force personnel then returned fire in response.
The situation escalated again when the KKB group opened fire again from two different directions, on the right and left sides of the road. The joint police team returned fire, while shouts were heard from the forest, indicating the presence of the armed group.
Furthermore, the joint team also discovered a roadblock using trees that had blocked access to Samboga Village. And based on the Team's investigation, it was detected that one armed KKB member was near the scene of the incident.
The task force is currently conducting an investigation, in-depth investigation, and taking measured steps regarding the involvement of criminals from the armed criminal group (KKB), who were involved in actions that had the potential to disrupt public order and security and unsettle the community.
The situation was quickly brought under control by the joint team, and there were no casualties on either side. All personnel remain safe and ready to continue their security duties in the area.
Based on the investigation, the KKB group from Kodap XVI Yahukimo is suspected of planning a security disturbance in the Dekai area following the traditional stone-burning ritual on April 11, 2026. The patrols carried out by the authorities are a preventative measure to anticipate potential disturbances.
The Head of the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that his team will continue to strengthen patrols and enforce the law in a measured manner to maintain security stability in Papua.
"This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to suppress armed groups and protect the public. We will continue to conduct intensive patrols and take firm, measured action against any security disturbances," he said.
