inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is gradually evacuating 45 Indonesian citizens from Iran, affected by the escalating conflict in the Middle East, this week.
"The evacuated Indonesian citizens are scheduled to arrive in three batches from April 14-16, 2026," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a written statement on Wednesday (4/15/2026).
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the first repatriation batch arrived safely at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng on Tuesday (4/14/2026) at 6:00 PM, after traveling by air from Baku, Azerbaijan.
After arriving in Jakarta, the newly arrived Indonesian citizens were handed over to the Jakarta Social Services Agency and the Liaison Agencies of the provinces of West Java, Central Java, and Lampung for further repatriation to their respective regions of origin.
The second batch arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday, and the third repatriation batch will arrive on Thursday (April 16).
The evacuation was carried out in response by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives abroad, particularly the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the Indonesian Embassy in Baku, to ensure the safety and protection of Indonesian citizens in conflict-affected areas.
Furthermore, according to records from the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran as of April 7, 2026, the number of Indonesian citizens still in Iran, following previous evacuations, reached 281.
The majority of these Indonesian citizens are known to be students in the city of Qom, while the others are migrant workers and expatriates in Iran, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
"The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran, continues to maintain intensive communication to ensure the condition and whereabouts of these Indonesian citizens, as well as to assess the form of assistance currently being provided," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Acting Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, stated that the more than 700 Indonesian citizens still stranded in the Middle East due to flight disruptions can soon return home.
She stated that these Indonesian citizens are being handled and awaiting flights home in stages.
As of last week, Indonesian missions in the Middle East had facilitated the independent repatriation process for 2,284 Indonesian citizens. This number does not include Indonesian Umrah pilgrims who are also stranded and unable to return home.
