Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs ( debunked a viral Facebook video claiming Bank Indonesia intentionally weakened the Rupiah to boost exports and attract foreign investors. 

"The allegation that Bank Indonesia is weakening the Rupiah value is groundless," said Nailul Huda, an economist from the Center of Economic and Law Studies. "If this were done, Bank Indonesia would actually incur losses. Furthermore, one of Bank Indonesia’s core duties and functions is to maintain Rupiah exchange rate stability and control inflation."

Fact-checks revealed the video, originally published on 14 May 2026, by trading research firm Astronacci, was completely misrepresented.

The original video merely prompted a discussion regarding currency fluctuations, and at no point did the speakers state that the central bank manipulated the exchange rate. Economists also pointed out that intentional depreciation would directly harm the central bank and contradict its core legal mandate.
