Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Director General of Human Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Dhahana Putra, emphasized on Monday (2//9/2024) the importance of respecting individual religious rights in public service sectors, including hospitals.
His statement came in response to reports of a private hospital in South Jakarta allegedly prohibiting the wearing of hijabs, according to antaranews.com.
Dhahana stressed that such actions not only violate the law but also undermine the principles of pluralism and tolerance fundamental to Indonesia.
He pointed out that both the 1945 Constitution and Indonesian human rights laws guarantee freedom of religion and expression, including the right to wear religious attire like the hijab.
Dhahana announced plans to send a team to directly engage with the hospital management to clarify the situation and ensure that human rights are upheld across all public service sectors.
He also called for the promotion of religious harmony and tolerance as essential components of national unity.
