Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Batam Customs Enforcement and Investigation Team (P2) in, Riau Islands foiled an attempt to smuggle hundreds of used iPhones through ASDP Punggur Port on Saturday, seizing a suitcase packed with iPhones.
The officer discovered the suitcase inside an SUV with license plate BP 1291 AE as it prepared to board the ferry KMP Barau.
Head of Batam Customs Office Zaky Firmansyah confirmed on Monday (29/9/2025).the operation but withheld further details on the origin and destination of the shipment, citing the ongoing investigation.
“Yes, it’s true. We will give a full release on Wednesday,” he told reporters Monday.
This is not the first iPhone smuggling attempt from Batam. In July 2025, 327 units were intercepted at Hang Nadim Airport, while in March 2025 authorities arrested a suspect involved in the smuggling of 100 iPhones dating back to 2024.
Batam Customs reiterated its commitment to enforcing import regulations and curbing illegal IMEI practices.
