The Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo spoke out regarding the INP Law that has been passed during a plenary session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), regarding the assignment of police members to civilian or non-civilian positions. 

According to him, the placement of members outside the police force will be implemented as per regulations, based on requests from ministries/institutions or directly from the President.

"Furthermore, we are emphasizing that we can only fill out the position if requested. So if they are not requested, I will not send them, as I have previously stated," explained General Sigit at the 2026 National Police Commission (Kompolnas-Polri) Supervisory Coordination Meeting (Rakorwas) in Ancol, North Jakarta, Wednesday (6/9/2026).

General Sigit explained that there are also assignments from the President that can certainly be carried out based on an assessment of their urgency. He also emphasized that this regulation should not be interpreted as meaning active police members can take over civil servant positions.

He added that every request must still be based on the needs of the police force's function. This function includes managerial and non-managerial positions within ministries or institutions related to duties such as: Maintaining security, order, and public safety; b. Law enforcement; and c. Protection, patronage, and service to the community.

"We don't intend to interfere with the space of INP Civil Servants outside the structure, no. We are simply providing space, in principle, if we are needed, as long as it aligns with our functions, and matters relating to the police, we will carry them out," said the Chief of Police.
