The Authority of Nusantara Capital City (OIKN) stressed that there are no evictions in the construction of the city. “Cultural rights are protected in Nusantara Capital City (IKN), we are not doing any arbitray eviction,” said the Deputy of Social, Culture, and People Empowerment of OIKN, Alimuddin, in his official statement on Friday (3/15/2024). Alimuddin assures amidst the establishment of the city, the rights of local community are guaranteed to be protected. Furthermore, Alimuddin also highlights that the people of North Penajam Paser gave their full support for the establishment of IKN. In his explanation on land acquiring for the establishment of IKN, OIKN adheres to the regulation from the government while also respecting rights of people who owned the land. According to the regulation, in acquiring the land owned by the locals, the government are required to purchase, replaced with other land, or resettlement. “The point is, we are not acquiring the land haphazardly. We are still conducting thorough socialization door to door,” explained Alimuddin. Alimudding assured that country is obliged to protect the rights of the people, including when acquiring the land. If their lands are to be acquired by the state, the law demands the government to fulfil the rights of the land owners. According to the Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 63 of 2022 concerning Details of the Master Plan for IKN states that the land provision for the city establishment are based on principles of optimal management of state-owned land and respect for the land owners. The land provision for IKN also referring to Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning IKN. The land provision considers the principle of awareness, providing adequate and fair agreed upon through negotiation and conversation, as well as clarity of stages and measurable completion times.
