inp.polri.go.id - Maluku. The North Maluku Regional Police have successfully uncovered an alleged illegal firearms distribution network in North Halmahera Regency. 

During the operation, police arrested three suspects, along with three firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

North Maluku Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Arif Budiman, stated that the case was uncovered as a result of an intensive investigation supported by intelligence activities and collaboration with various relevant agencies.

"From this case, officers successfully apprehended three suspects: BS alias UB, ZS, and SC," said Arif during a press conference at North Maluku Regional Police Headquarters.

In this case, investigators seized evidence in the form of one assembled SS1 firearm, one semi-assembled SS2 firearm, one SMR long-barreled firearm, one magazine, and 206 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

Arif explained that suspect BS alias UB was arrested on July 17, 2026, in Soasio Village, Galela District, North Halmahera Regency. On the same day, officers also arrested suspect ZS in Gorua Village, North Tobelo District.

Meanwhile, suspect SC, who was previously on the Wanted List (DPO), was apprehended at his residence in Igobula Village, Galela District. As reported by Indo Timur, Wednesday (8/5/2026).

According to Arif, the circulation of illegal firearms poses a serious threat to public order and security because they have the potential to be used in various criminal acts and incite conflict.

"The circulation of illegal firearms is not just a violation of the law, but a serious threat to national security," he stressed.

The Two-Star General adds that the success of the case uncovering demonstrate police’s commitment in maintaining regional stability.
