Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. The Immigration Office in Denpasar, Bali, has deported an American citizen identified as RMW who was unable to pay a fine of Rp15 million for violating his residency permit.
Gede Dudy Duwita, the Head of the Immigration Detention Center in Denpasar, explained on Saturday (17/2/2024) that the 45-year-old man was found to have violated his residency permit when he was about to leave Bali for Cambodia via Ngurah Rai International Airport on 24 January 2024.
He was then temporarily detained at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center after the office found that RMW's residency permit had expired on 9 January 2024, or exceeded 15 days in Indonesia without extending his stay as required, antaranews.com reported.
After waiting for financial readiness to prepare for his return to his country and completing administrative requirements, RMW was deported to Guam, which is a territory of the United States in the Pacific Ocean.
RMW arrived in Bali on 11 December 2023, using the visa on arrival (VoA) facility. He claimed that he had purchased an electronic VoA to extend his visa. However, buying an electronic VoA is not a facility for extending residency permits but rather used upon arrival from abroad.
"Although he claimed it was due to his negligence, Immigration deported him line with the principle ignorance of the law excuses no one," he said.
