Immigration Minister Vows Reform After Chinese Embassy Reports Bribery

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto pledged reforms after the Chinese Embassy reported 44 cases of bribery involving immigration officers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

"We appreciate the Chinese Embassy for bringing this to our attention. This is a wake-up call for us to improve our institution," he said on Sunday (2/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

A letter from the Chinese Embassy on 21 January 2025, addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, detailed incidents of extortion where Chinese citizens were forced to pay a total of Rp 32.75 million.

Minister Agus assured that immediate corrective measures would be taken, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

"If the embassy hadn’t informed us, we wouldn’t have known. Now, we can act swiftly, and this serves as a warning for all service units to uphold integrity," he added.

The Ministry has dismissed around 30 immigration officials from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport following the information from the Chinese Embassy.

Minister Agus said that that the dismissed officials are now under internal investigation,
