inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir stated that Indonesia is targeting 120 gold medals at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, which will be held in Thailand this January.
"We previously stated that the target for the ASEAN Games is 120 gold medals," said the Minister of Youth and Sports on Monday (11/10/2025).
He stated that the 120 gold medal target is to secure second place in the ASEAN Para Games. This target, he said, is quite realistic, considering that Thailand, as the host, certainly wants to win the overall championship.
"Thailand, as the host, is very determined as they definitely want to win. Their target is approximately 174 gold medals," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Minister Erick stated that, given the current competitive landscape, second place is a reasonable target. Setting this target, he said, demonstrates openness without any hesitation or shame.
"Therefore, we need to introspect together for future preparations," said Erick.
Meanwhile, Reda Manthovani, Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian Contingent for the 2025 ASEAN Para Games, explained that preparations for the event were relatively short, taking only three months.
The national training camp for athletes for the ASEAN Para Games began last October and will run until December. Manthovani stated that 306 athletes are being prepared to compete in 18 sports.
"We hope to maintain our target of 120 gold medals," said the Minister.
In the last two editions of the ASEAN Para Games, Indonesia emerged as the overall champion at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games, winning 175 gold medals, and Cambodia's 2023 ASEAN Para Games with 159 gold medals.
