inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese agreed to further improve their cooperation in the defense sector and expand market access for Indonesian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
In a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (5/15/2025), President Prabowo emphasized that Australia is not only a neighbor, but also a strategic partner for Indonesia so that a number of agreements in various fields that are already underway will be continued.
"In the defense sector, we are committed to completing the ratification process of the defense cooperation agreement that was agreed last year, and we will continue to discuss possibilities to improve and enhance cooperation in this defense sector," said President Prabowo.
Then in the economic sector, the President encouraged increased trade cooperation, investment, and Australia's participation in strengthening the agricultural, fisheries, and MSME sectors in Indonesia.
President Prabowo wants Indonesian fruit and fisheries products to be able to better meet international market standards, including Australia.
Prabowo also invited Australia to participate more in economic cooperation amidst the current global uncertainty.
"In conditions of global economic uncertainty, the relationship between us, Australia-Indonesia, is increasingly important and will bring more benefits to our two countries and our two peoples," said Prabowo.
The two leaders also discussed opportunities for cooperation in the field of food security in the field of energy and mineral transition, as well as the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem.
