Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia will not allow Guantanamo detainee and alleged terrorist Encep Nurjaman, known as Hambali, to re-enter the country if released, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said on Thursday (13/6/2025).

"Legally, if a person lacks Indonesian citizenship documents, their status as an Indonesian national is considered void," he said after meeting with Australian Ambassador Rod Brazier, as reported by antaranews.com.

Hambali, a key figure in the 2002 Bali bombing, has been detained in Guantanamo Bay for over two decades without trial. Minister Yusril reiterated that any legal proceedings will be left to U.S. jurisdiction. 

Australian Ambassador Rod Brazier welcomed Indonesia’s transparency but noted ongoing sensitivities, especially for victims’ families.
