Indonesia Calls on Cambodia, Laos for Joint Site Development

Indonesia extends invitations to Laos and Cambodia to deepen collaboration in cultural site development through the ASEAN Single Destination program, recognizing the significance of their cultural similarities in maximizing tourist appeal. "Cambodia's Angkor Wat, an extraordinary historical and cultural destination akin to Indonesia's Borobudur, provides an opportunity for enhanced collaboration," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno during a meeting with Cambodian Minister of Tourism Sok Soken on the sidelines of the 27th Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers in Vientiane, Laos, on Friday (1/26/2024) Additionally, Minister Sandiaga engaged in discussions with Laos's Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism Suanesavanh Vignaket, addressing potential cooperation and the enhancement of human resource capacity. "We endorse Laos as the host of ATF 2024 and the chair of ASEAN this year. Our active involvement will persist in the preparatory meetings for the ASEAN Summit in Laos," he said. During the meeting with Laos, flight connectivity between Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos was a focal point, with particular attention to visits to temple sites. "To improve air connectivity between Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Luang Prabang in Laos, Yogyakarta, and Bali in Indonesia, optimizing it to attract tourists to ASEAN as a single destination," he said.
