Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.The Indonesian government officially enacted Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025, known as PP Tunas, on Saturday. The regulation mandates a strict governance framework for digital platforms to ensure child safety within the nation’s digital ecosystem.
"There is no compromise on compliance. Every business entity operating in Indonesia is obligated to adhere to our laws," said Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid during a press briefing at the Ministry's headquarters in Jakarta on Friday evening (27/3/2026).
She appreciated X and Bigo Live for achieving full compliance, while noting that TikTok and Roblox have been categorized as "partially cooperative." However, global giants including Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and YouTube have yet to meet the mandatory requirements.
The Minister emphasized the principle of universality, arguing that child protection features deployed by these platforms in other regions must be applied equally in Indonesia without discrimination.
Under the implementing regulation, Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, non-compliant platforms face escalating administrative sanctions. These measures range from formal warning letters and temporary service suspensions to total access termination within Indonesian territory. The initial enforcement phase specifically targets eight high-risk platforms, marking a significant shift in Indonesia's oversight of the digital space to protect its youngest citizens.
