Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (Menkop UKM) Teten Masduki has three conditions for TikTok Shop to return to Indonesia. “First they have to be separated from its social media, not to be merged into one platform,” says Masduki quoted from Antara on Thursday (11/21/2023). The second requirement is that TikTok has to follow the Indonesian trading regulation, while the last requirement is that TikTok has to follow product standardization to ensure consumer protection. Indonesia is open with investment particularly in digital economic, but it does not mean that foreign investors are free from Indonesian regulations to protect local online market. Moreover, Trade Ministry have signed the Trade Ministry Regulations Number 31 Year 2023 which regulates social commerce to only facilitate services or goods promotion and prohibits in providing transaction service. The regulation also regulates the minimum price of 100 USD per unit for foreign items sold to Indonesia via cross-border e-Commerce platforms. This regulation aims to protect local MSMEs which according to data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, there are already around 67 millions of local entrepreneurs. Due to the regulation, TikTok Shop was then pulled from Indonesia on October 4th, 2023. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
