Inp.polri.go.id - Tianjin. Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to multilateralism and the Non-Aligned Movement during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit in Tianjin, China, on Monday (1/9/2025).

“Our presence here demonstrates Indonesia’s importance to the SCO, to reaffirm our commitment to multilateralism, the non-aligned movement, and our readiness to work with all members. We stand to amplify the voices of developing countries and strengthen cooperation,” he said during the plenary session chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as reported by antaranews.com.

The summit brought together 23 leaders, including China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Iran, alongside invited participants from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Minister Sugiono represented President Prabowo Subianto, who canceled his attendance to monitor unrest at home.

He stressed Indonesia’s support for global governance, social justice, and humanitarian principles, citing Gaza as a reminder of the need to uphold international law. The meeting concluded with the “Tianjin Declaration,” outlining SCO’s 2026–2035 agenda on security, economic integration, and reform of global governance.
