Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia stands ready to provide aid to Libya and Morocco in the event of a request for assistance to address disaster-related challenges, a senior official said on Thursday (14/9/2023). "If there is a request, we will definitely provide it. Indonesia has a tradition of always being among the first countries to help our brothers and sisters, our friends," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, was quoted by antaranews.com as saying. However, he said that Morocco has not yet accepted foreign aid, except from a select few nations that have received specific requests in light of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the country while  the Libyan government has been in active communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli, in connection with assistance for the victims of devastating floods that have claimed the lives of at least 6,000 individuals, leaving thousands more unaccounted for. The spokesperson said that there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens  falling victim to the disasters in both countries.  The current data indicates the presence of 282 Indonesians in Libya, with approximately 500 Indonesians residing in Morocco. In Libya, the distant location of the flooded region in eastern Libya from its capital, Tripoli, has posed challenges in assessing and verifying the number of casualty. At present , Libya continues to grapple with political conflicts, featuring two rival governments—one in Tripoli and another in Tobruk—further complicating disaster response efforts. "That's why we can't confirm 100 percent (whether there are Indonesian casualties) because of political and geographical issues. This flooded area is closer to Benghazi, far from Tripoli," he added.
