Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Director General of Legal Administrative Affairs Widodo revealed on Thursday (26/2/2026) that foreign interest in acquiring Indonesian citizenship has surged significantly over the past five years.
"Data at the Directorate of State Affairs shows that interest in becoming an Indonesian citizen has remained consistently high throughout 2025, 2026, and preceding years," he said, highlighting the nation's increasing appeal.
The Director General explained that while thousands seek the status, the Ministry maintains strict selectivity to prevent legal loopholes.
According to antaranews.com, applicants must reside in Indonesia for five consecutive years or ten non-consecutive years while clearing multi-agency background checks. Despite the stringent requirements, the ministry noted a sharp rise in 2024 with 165 new applications, fueled by Indonesia's cultural richness and social stability.
