Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has temporarily suspended the registration of Worldcoin and World ID following public complaints about users being asked to scan their irises in exchange for cryptocurrency tokens valued at around Rp800,000.
“This suspension is a preventive measure to mitigate potential risks to the public,” said Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Communication Ministry. on Sunday (4/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Initial investigations revealed that PT Terang Bulan Abadi, affiliated with the services, is not registered as an official electronic system provider—violating Indonesian law. Worldcoin, launched in July 2023 by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, grants users a digital ID (World ID) after they scan their iris using a metallic device called the Orb.
With 29 branches across Indonesia, Worldcoin recently sparked online debate after long queues formed in Bekasi, where people lined up to scan their irises in exchange for the token reward.
