Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has once again received the honor of hosting the prestigious MXGP World Motocross Championship, scheduled for June and July.
This marks the third consecutive year that these provinces have been entrusted with hosting responsibilities for the MXGP event.
Indonesia will host MXGP series in Sumbawa on 20 June 20204, followed by another in Lombok on 7 July 72024
For the 2024 season, only Indonesia and Italy have been selected to host MXGP motocross races twice consecutively. The Indonesian series will unfold in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, specifically Series 10 at the Samota Circuit in Sumbawa and Series 11 at the Selaparang Circuit in Lombok.
Zulkifliemansyah, Chairman of MXGP Indonesia, highlighted how choosing the Samota Circuit has spurred the local economy, antaranews.com reported.
"Previously, Samota saw little activity, but with MXGP, investments are now confirmed. This sets a precedent for other regions in Indonesia. If Sumbawa, despite its limitations, can host a global event, then Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, and others can follow suit," he said during a press conference on Wednesday (28/2/2024).
The name "Samota" is an acronym derived from three areas: Teluk Saleh, Moyo Island, and Mount Tambora.
Meanwhile, the Central Committee of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) highlighted the importance of hosting top-tier world championships in enhancing the skills of Indonesian athletes, according to Erwin Indrianto, representing the Inter-Agency Relations Department.
