Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government will implement a single national passport system starting in 2027 to simplify services and strengthen travel document security, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections announced on Wednesday (17/12/2025).
“In the future, there will be no more different passport types; one standardized passport will be provided to the public,” said Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto, as quoted by antaranews.comThe policy applies nationwide and targets all Indonesian passport holders as part of broader public service reform.
Currently, Indonesia issues non-electronic and electronic passports, including limited polycarbonate versions, while passport numbers change upon renewal. Under the new policy, passport types will be unified and passport numbers are planned to be valid for life.
The transition will take place through 2026, during which remaining passport stock will be used and a national implementation roadmap finalized. The ministry said the reform will be carried out gradually to ensure security, legal certainty, and easier access for citizens.
