Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni announced on Wednesday (13/8/2025) that climbers on Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara will soon be required to use a tracking application to enhance safety, with implementation set for late August.

The app, developed in collaboration with the Indonesian Mountaineering Federation (FMI), will allow authorities to monitor climbers’ locations in real time.

“With a mobile phone, we can track their position. Whether there are 10 or 20 people, their location can be monitored from Sembalun or Jakarta,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The policy aims to improve incident response, particularly in rescue operations, and will be paired with signal enhancement in hazardous areas. T

The initiative is part of a new standard operating procedure for Mount Rinjani, which also includes mandatory climbing experience, health checks, premium insurance, and professional guides. The government plans to expand the system to other climbing areas nationwide.
