Indonesian Boat Crew Dead in Japan Shipwreck

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  A South Korean-flagged ship manned by eight Indonesian crew sank near Shimonoseki, Japan on Wednesday. The vessel, identified as the Keoyoung Sun, was carrying 11 crew, consisting of the eight Indonesians, two South Koreans, and one Chinese national. Among the as nine crew members rescued, eight perished while one sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by antaranews.com. The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Osaka has coordinated with the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) to confirm the identities of the bodies, said Judha Nugraha, the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities Abroad at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (21/3/2024) He said that the Foreign Ministry has reached out to families in Indonesia to offer support and ensure the protection of the rights of Indonesian citizens during this challenging time. The vessel's cargo reportedly included 980 tons of acrylic acid, however, authorities have yet to confirm if any leakage occurred, pending further investigation. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
