Special Detachment 88 Counter-terrorism states 59 terrorist have been arrested in October 2023. “On October 2nd-23rd, we have arrested 19 suspects and on October 27th the number goes up to 40 people. And currently, in total there 59 suspects arrested,” says Head Ops of Special Detachment 88 Counter-terrorism, Grand Commissioner Aswin Siregar on Tuesday (10/31/2023). He then explains that the arrest on October 2nd-23rd 2023 are terrorists of Jamaah Islamiyah (JI). While in the last weeks of October, the unit have secured terrorist linked to Jamaah Ansharut Daullah (JAD). According to Aswin, JI suspects are those who are actively broadcast, recruits, and trains the newcomers. Meanwhile arrest against JAD terrorist are those who plans to disrupt 2024 elections. “They plan to disrupt and foil our democracy festive. This was found out after they said that democracy is against their beliefs, thus they plan for an attack towards security guards during elections,” says Aswin. (ad/ay/pr/nm)
