Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Embassy in Damascus has evacuated 37 Indonesian citizens from Syria following a recent political power shift in the country.
According to the embassy statement, the evacuation began on 10 December 2024 at 2 pm local time, with the group departing Syria and transiting through Beirut before continuing their journey to Indonesia.
They are expected to arrive in Jakarta on 12 December 2024, as antaranews.com on Wednesday (11/12/2024).
Ambassador Wajid Fauzi bid farewell to the evacuees, wishing them a safe journey back home.
As of 8 December 2024, the embassy confirmed that all 1,162 Indonesian citizens in Syria are safe despite escalating conflict in the capital, Damascus.
Ambassador Wajid also noted that life in Damascus is largely returning to normal, with businesses reopening, public transportation resuming, and daily activities back on track.
