The Cybercrime Directorate of Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency arrested 11 suspects involved in online gambling in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday (7/9/23). The Vice Director of the Directorate Police Senior Superintendent Dani Kustoni said that this case was uncovered during routine cyber patrols.
"The coordinator, identified as R, along with operators identified as AS, AP, AL, DM, IF, B, M, MA, MR, and PS (were arrested)," he revealed on Friday (8/9/23). They were responsible for managing the website Oto88, he added.
Additionally, he stated that the police will now proceed with tracing the assets of the suspects, and did not rule out the possibility of additional suspects being implicated.
The suspects will face charges under Article 45 paragraph 2 Jo Article 27 paragraph 2 of the ITE Law, Article 303 paragraph 1 sub-1 and sub-2 of the Criminal Code, as well as Article 3 and Article 10 of the Money Laundering Act.
He further highlighted that the police have successfully handled 77 cases and arrested 130 suspects in online gambling crackdowns since the beginning of 2023. He added that the police have been collaborated with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to block access to 564 online gambling sites.
He strongly advised the public against participating in any form of online gambling, underscoring its criminal implications and potential risks to mental well-being. He assured that cyber patrols will continue to be conducted extensively.
