Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Directorate of Cyber Crime has arrested a suspect accused of creating deepfake videos impersonating state officials, including President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, to carry out fraudulent schemes.

The suspect, identified as AMA (29), was rrested in Central  Lampung on 16 January 2025.

“The suspect used artificial intelligence to create videos falsely promoting government aid programs,” said Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji , the INP Director of Cyber Crime, on Thursday (23/1/2025).

The videos included a WhatsApp number, where suspect AMA convinced victims to pay administrative fees in exchange for fake financial aid. Over the past four months, suspect AMA defrauded 11 victims across Indonesia, amassing around Rp 30 million.

Authorities seized evidence, including mobile phones, identification cards, and bank account details. Suspect AMA faces charges under Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions Law and the Criminal Code, carrying severe penalties.

“We urge the public to verify information from trusted sources and stay vigilant against scams like this,” Director Himawan advised.
