Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (INP) held a meeting with digital media practitioners in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/3/23) to encourage their participation in maintaining peacefulness and stability ahead of the 2024 general election.
"The initiative to bring together digital media practitioners, the INP's influencer partners, and social media activists is an essential step for consolidating and coordinating efforts in the digital media field," said Brigadier General Gatot Repli Handoko, who represented the Head of Public Relations Division of the INP.
He explained that the initiative is to ensure that all Indonesian citizens receive accurate information and be aware on how to use the information online. Such skill is considered crucial this year due to the Indonesian society dynamic ahead of the 2024 election.
The general cited the statement of Ang Peng Hwa, the Director of the Singapore Internet Research Center at Nanyang Technological University, that the country poses a significant challenge due to the scale of coverage, duration, campaign period, and diverse cultural backgrounds of Indonesian citizens.
Through the meeting, he hoped that the INP can maintain and foster a good relationship with the digital media community.
"The INP plays a vital role in anticipating and mitigating the potential negative impacts and frictions in digital media. We hope that the peaceful digital environment ahead of the general election can be realized," he concluded.
