Chief of the Indonesian National Police, (INP)General Polisi Listyo Sigit Prabowo called on presidential candidates not to employ divisive political tactics that could jeopardize national unity and integrity. He emphasized  the importance of maintaining national unity in his public lecture at the University of Hasanuddin in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Friday (20/10/2023) "Let's not use divisive politics that can make the public suffer. I've conveyed this message repeatedly, and I never hesitate, regardless of who the presidential candidates are. This is essential for all of us," he said as quoted by antaranews.com. He  explained that the INP has been focusing on securing the 2024 Legislative and Presidential Elections. The INP Chief reiterated his call for prospective presidential candidates and their teams to prioritize good and respectful political conduct, refraining from divisive actions that can threaten national unity. He warned that such actions would have a detrimental impact on the public. General Sigit explained that every democratic event, including the eletions, poses threats and the potential for conflict. "Undoubtedly, this is a potential threat to us all, the threat of conflict. If we're not careful, conflicts will certainly arise. I consistently urge everyone to safeguard unity and togetherness," he emphasized. To preempt any potential conflicts during the electoral contest, the INP Chief said that he has met with the leaders of political parties and presidential candidates about the issue. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
