Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) have handled 86 forest and land fire cases from January to October 2025, with 83 suspects arrested for deliberately setting fires, INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said on Friday (24/10/2025).
Most suspects reportedly burned land for plantation purposes, a recurring cause of annual haze and deforestation in the country.
“We detained 83 suspects caught intentionally burning land. In 2024, there were 47 suspects,” Chief Sigit said at the INP Headquarters in Jakarta.
He urged the public to stop using fire to clear land, stressing the environmental and health risks involved.
The INP has conducted over 27,000 awareness campaigns and nearly 12,000 patrols, building more than 4,000 water reservoirs and 1,400 watchtowers in fire-prone areas. The police have also integrated an early warning system using the Geospatial Analytic Center (GAC) and other monitoring applications to detect fire hotspots in real time.
