Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Corrections confirmed on Friday (24/10/2025) that Gunung Sitoli Prison in North Sumatra has returned to normal following a riot on Wednesday).
“The situation is now under control. We continue to take steps to prevent similar incidents so that correctional management and security can run smoothly,” said Yudi Suseno, the Head of the North Sumatra Regional Corrections Office, in a statement, as reported by antaranews.com.
The disturbance reportedly began after the prison warden allegedly assaulted an inmate who broke internal rules by giving food to another prisoner in a disciplinary cell. The injured inmate has received medical treatment and is set for conditional release in November.
The Corrections Directorate General has removed the warden from duty pending an ethics and disciplinary investigation.
Yudi added that Gunung Sitoli Prison requires special supervision due to frequent transfers of high-risk inmates, reaffirming that violence by either officers or inmates “will not be tolerated.”
