INP Deploy Inafis Team to Identify SAM Air Crash Victims

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian National Police (INP) has deployed the (Indonesian Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) team to identify the victims of the recent SAM Air plane crash in Pohuwato, Gorontalo.

Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the INP Public Relations Division Head of Public Information Bureau, said on Tuesday (22/10/2024) that the identification efforts are crucial for confirming the victims’ identities and facilitating the handover of bodies to their families.

"Inafis is using forensic methods such as fingerprint matching, medical records, and personal belongings found at the crash site," he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The team is also working with the local Bhayangkara Hospital's medical staff to expedite the identification and evacuation process.

Ambulances have been deployed to transfer the victims to the hospital for further examination. The police are also supporting the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) in their investigation of the crash, providing data and securing the area to prevent contamination of evidence.

Security forces from both the military and police have been deployed to safeguard the crash site.
