Inp.polri.go.id - Banjarmasin. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has identified 63 out of 80 bodies recovered from the KM Virgo Transport 8 sinking as of Monday (5/10/2026).
"Because the retrieved remains are difficult to identify visually, examination relies heavily on DNA comparative data," said Brigadier General Sumy Hastry Purwanti, the Head of Medical Police at the INP Medical and Health Center at the Bhayangkara Hospital Banjarmasin.
Primary identification methods, including DNA matching, fingerprints, and dental records, remain central to the process, supplemented by secondary medical and property evidence.
To complete the remaining 17 identifications, DNA samples are being transferred to Jakarta for lab analysis. Chief Hastry assured families that DVI officers are expediting all necessary procedures to confirm victim identities accurately.
