Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) is intensifying efforts to prevent forest and land fires, locally known as karhutla, by involving various stakeholders across sectors.

During the 2025 Riau KarhutlaJamboree in Siak, INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized the importance of joint mitigation amid rising threats to Indonesia’s vast forest areas.

“Indonesia has 95.5 million hectares of forest, the eighth largest in the world, yet karhutla remains a recurring threat,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

In 2024, fires scorched 376,000 hectares nationwide, with Riau contributing 11,000 hectares, ranking 11th in fire-prone regions.

The INP has taken proactive measures, including public education, patrols, canal and reservoir development, and hotspot monitoring via the Lancang Kuning app. Law enforcement continues to apply strict penalties to deter arson.
