Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency’s Directorate for Environmental and Forestry Crimes has collected 27 wood samples from the Garoga River Basin in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra, as part of an investigation into logs found during recent flooding.

“Twenty-seven wood samples have been taken, police lines are in place, and two bridges have been examined,” said Brigadier General Mohamad Irhamni on Monday (8/12/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

Investigators found predominantly rubber, ketapang, and durian wood. Experts later categorised the samples as sawn timber, uprooted trees removed by heavy machinery, landslide debris, and logs transported by loaders. The team has also questioned a village head and several witnesses.

Police suspect land-clearing activities by PT TBS upstream and will summon the company for further examination. A joint team from the INP and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry continues to probe the source of the logs. The National Police Chief has stated all violations will be processed.
