inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) held a Training of Trainers (ToT) for the 2026 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Understanding Program in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/21/2026).
This activity is part of the police's efforts to strengthen digital literacy and prepare trainers to educate students on the safe, ethical, and responsible use of AI.
The activity was attended by 65 participants, consisting of 55 prospective trainers from 11 regional police pilot projects and 10 Master Trainers from the Central Java Regional Police. The trainers will later expand the AI Understanding Program education to the regional police and precinct levels.
Brigadier General Indarto, Head of INP Communications and Information Technology Division, stated that AI education is important because students are now using the technology independently. Based on research on 11,550 students in Central Java, 94 percent of students reported being able to use AI, but the majority learned it independently.
"These students have the potential to become victims of AI crimes, and they also have the potential to become perpetrators. Therefore, we prevent and mitigate this with these methods," said Indarto.
He added that INP is targeting the Understand AI Program to reach up to 10 million students through gradual implementation and collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and other education stakeholders.
"Our target is actually fantastic. We want as many as possible. In fact, we are aiming for at least 10 million students quantitatively," he said.
To achieve this target, INP emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and other stakeholders. AI education cannot be implemented in isolation, as schools, teachers, parents, education offices, and various related parties have a crucial role in fostering a healthy digital ecosystem for the younger generation.
"We are not acting alone. We are partnering with the Ministry of Education. The police cannot do it alone; we are working together," said Indarto.
Through the Understand AI Program, INP and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education are promoting the formation of a safe, healthy, and productive digital ecosystem. Trainers who have participated in the ToT will educate high school (SMA), vocational (SMK), and equivalent students on AI utilization, digital ethics, cybersecurity, and preventing the risk of AI-based crimes.
