Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police  (INP) named 113 suspects across 169 wildfire cases that burned 4,741 hectares of land nationwide as of Friday (4/9/2026).

Investigations revealed that most suspects intentionally burned vegetation on private land for land clearing. Riau Regional Police recorded the highest number of suspects at 42, followed by South Sumatra and Central Kalimantan with 20 suspects each.

"Suspects are currently dominated by individuals burning their own property for land clearing," said INP Criminal Investigation Agency’s Head of Sub-Directorate III Senior Superintendent Pipit Subiyanto.

INP Public Relations Division Head of  Public Information Bureau Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko confirmed that law enforcement operations aim to enforce legal deterrence and prevent environmental degradation.

Officers continue investigating potential corporate involvement, with 55 cases under preliminary investigation and 79 under active prosecution.
