Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The PR Division of the Indonesian National Police (INP) hopes the media could be the perfect news reference for community during 2024 General Elections. This means that media would help the public receive valid and accountable news. “We are aware that media role is important in realizing peaceful elections,” says Head Bureau of Public Information of INP PR Division, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, quoted from RRI on Monday (10/30/2023). According to him, chaos and riots in society ahead of elections are very plausible. Therefore, he saw that the media's role is vital in preventing hoax news. “The expectation is that media could verify or clarify the news and be the perfect news reference. This is because news is not sourced only through online news, but can also come from social media,” hopes Ahmad. Moreover, he also implores the public to use social media wisely, to not easily provoked, and share unconfirmed news. “This is important because division could be born from differences. However, our country is a democratic country, where differences should be tolerated and we have to respect each other. We will uphold this country's democracy,” calls Ahmad. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
