Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Security Maintenance Agency of the Indonesian National Police (INP) deployed a Search and Rescue (SAR) team to Central Kalimantan to protect orangutans and other wildlife threatened by forest and land fires.
The deployment follows instructions from Head of Security Maintenance Agency Commissioner General Herry Heryawan to ensure wildfire suppression includes ecosystem and wildlife preservation.
Brigadier General Tory Kristianto, the Director of the Mounted and Canine Police, coordinated directly with Central Kalimantan Regional Police leadership and visited the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation on Thursday.
"Karhutla is not just about burning forests. There is wildlife that we must also save. Therefore, handling efforts must be comprehensive, including ensuring wild animals remain protected," Chief Tory said on Friday (23/10/2026).
The team evaluated SAR officers and equipment readiness alongside the Central Kalimantan Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob). The team also traveled to Sampit, East Kotawaringin Regency, to collaborate with forest rangers and reinforce environmental monitoring across high-risk areas.
