The Press Council and UNESCO held an Institutional Leadership Dialogue and raise the theme of “Preventive Response Mechanism and the Handling of Journalist Abuse in Election Context,”. Among various important individuals at the event, Head of Public Information Bureau of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, also attends. On this occasion, Ramadhan conveys the INP message that the police are ready to supports the preventive response mechanism and the effort in stopping journalist abuse. “We will work together with Press Council and other institutions to prevent and handle the abuse against journalist,” says Ramadhan. On the other hand, the Press Council Chairperson Ninik Rahayu states that his party demands firm actions against abuse allegation towards journalist during election period. She also emphasized that information originated from social media are not news, as news has strict requirement, which should contain links from the media who are responsible in publishing it. Furthermore, Ninik also adviced the journalist not to be offended when asked from what publications they are. According to Ninik, this is important to identify if the media whether are verified or not by the Press Council. (ad/rd/pr/nm)
