inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Food Task Force is supporting the national food self-sufficiency program by developing garlic cultivation in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The Lampung Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Helfi Assegaf, who heads the Regional Food Task Force, stated that during his tenure as Head of the INP Food Task Force, he initiated a garlic planting collaboration with the Pusuk Pujata Farmers Group in Sembalun District.

The program, which began in 2002 with 15 hectares of land, has continued to grow significantly. By July 2026, the garlic plantation area had reached 534 hectares, using the Sangga Sembalun and Lumbu Putih varieties, which have an average productivity of 20–25 tons per hectare.

He stated that the successful garlic cultivation in Sembalun is clear evidence of the synergy between the police and farmers in supporting the national food self-sufficiency program launched by President Prabowo Subianto.

"Amidst the challenging global geopolitical dynamics, food security is a crucial foundation for national resilience. Therefore, the INP Food Task Force, together with the Pusuk Pujata Farmers Group, continues to expand the planted area, productivity, and quality of garlic to make Indonesia more self-sufficient and less dependent on imports," he said.

He added that the INP Food Task Force, together with the Pusuk Pujata Farmers Group, will continue to strengthen innovation in the agricultural sector.

In the near future, a new genetically tested variety called HAAS will be introduced. This variety has the advantage of being able to be grown at various altitudes, is more adaptable, and produces larger bulbs than previous varieties.
