Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian National Police (INP) has been preparing to counter potential global influences, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its possible link to terrorism, that could disrupt the security of the 2024 elections. General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the INP Chief, said measures to anticipate such effects were discussed and agreed upon during the 2023 Regional Police Chief Meeting on Wednesday (1/1/2023), which was attended by all key INP officials, regional police chiefs and district police chiefs from across Indonesia, antaranews.com reported. In terms of security measures, he noted that the escalating global challenges are expected to affect the current election processes and lead to an increase in certain crimes. "The recent effects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict have undoubtedly also rekindled cells linked to terrorism, which, whether we like it or not, we must be vigilant against," Chief Sigit said. The general referred to the INP's Special Anti-Terrorist Unit 88 (Densus 88)'s recent arrest of  59 suspects involved in terrorist activities throughout October. Among them were 40 suspects from the Ansharud Daulah (JAD) network, who were allegedly planning to disrupt the democratic process of the 2024 elections. Chief Sigit explained these arrests required the INP to take preventive measures. "Certainly, we will be prepared to strictly monitor all suspected areas where there are many dormant (terrorist) cells," he added, saying that the INP is ready to take immediate action if any signs of terrorism were detected that could disrupt the 2024 election process or government-led development initiatives.
