Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Daryono, the Director of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center at the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), confirmed that the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday (2/11/23) at 04.04 am caused minor structural damage.
The epicenter was located on land at a depth of 25 kilometers, specifically at coordinates 10.26° N and 123.72° E, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Kupang, he reported.
"The underlying cause is attributed to the bending of the ancient Australian tectonic plate beneath Kupang," Daryono was quoted by antaranews.com as saying.
BMKG advises residents to steer clear of buildings displaying cracks or earthquake-induced damage, and to thoroughly assess residential structures for any potential instability before re-entering.
