Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency’s Directorate of Special Economic Crimes is intensifying efforts to crack down on the sale of illegal electronic goods on e-commerce platforms.
During a press conference on Tuesday (4/2/2025), Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf, the Directore of Special Economic Crimes, revealed that a company, identified as PT GIA, had been selling uncertified electronics under the Weyon brand, including smart TVs, digital TVs, washing machines, irons, LED TVs, speakers, refurbished TVs, and remote controls.
Authorities have seized 2,406 illegal electronic units worth Rp 18 billion, causing state losses of Rp 5.61 billion. Despite the crackdown, Weyon smart TVs were found on Shopee as of Tuesday.
"We will also formally request e-commerce platforms to remove these illegal products," Chief Helfi said, as quoted by antaranews.com, adding that the investigators are locating other storage facilities and questioning those linked to the smuggling case.
