The Public Relations Division of Indonesian National Police (INP) is scheduled to host a public dialogue concerning press freedom titled "Freedom of the Press and Protection of Journalists" on Wednesday (31/5/23), the Head of Public Affairs Bureau Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan confirmed.
He said that the organization of the dialogue was a testament to the INP's recognition of the press's vital role within the core responsibilities of the Public Relations Division. As such, he underscored the imperative need to ensure the freedom of the press and the safeguarding of journalists' rights and protection.
"The press's role in nation-building narratives, which aligns with the core function of the Public Relations Division, is a matter of utmost concern for us," he said on Friday (26/5/23).
The dialogue, he hoped, will provide a mutual understanding regarding the peace journalism concept and offer a comprehensive overview of the journalism dynamic in the rapidly evolving digital era.
"It is hoped that the dialogue reaffirms the significant meaning of journalism in the maturation of the democracy," he added.
In the event, a number of panel experts will share their valuable insights, including Head of the Legal Division of INP Inspector General Victor Theodorus Sihombing, Chairperson of the Press Council Ninik Rahayu, Director of General Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency Brigadier General Djuhandani Raharjo, and Communication Practitioner Devie Rahmawati.
