"I have been in communication with various parties regarding the negotiation process, including the Church, which includes the Church Council and Bishop. They are committed to doing their best to negotiate with the Egianus Kogoya group and secure the release of the pilot," he explained in a written statement on Thursday (25/5/23).

He also stressed that the Cartenz Peace Task Force is currently preparing appropriate, firm, and measured law enforcement measures. However, negotiations are still ongoing, even with anyone.

"Of course, negotiations can be conducted with anyone. I am open to all parties. Initially, the government of Nduga District collaborated with the police chief representatives from the National Commission on Human Rights who offered their assistance, which we accepted," he said.

He revealed that a special team has been deployed to facilitate negotiations and provide assistance to anyone willing to help. He hoped that negotiations would continue to be preferred approach to secure the release of the pilot.

"I am optimistic that the negotiations will yield positive outcomes. We are giving the Egianus group an opportunity to peacefully release the pilot through negotiations. Progress is being made, and we are extending support to the Church, particularly the Kingmi Church, as they send their trusted representative to engage in the negotiation process," he said.
